You do not need to be a long-term or consistent
practitioner. You do not need to currently attend a Sangha in the Tiep Hie

and decrease suffering in the world.

Those who have had an oppo

Death Cafe – Saturday\, April 13\, 2024 – 2-4PM
\n
\n
Saturday\, April 13\, 2024 – 2:00 – 4:00 PM
p>\n
Dallas Meditation Center
\n
Join us for the D
allas Meditation Center’s second Death Cafe\, where we will have heart-ope
ning conversations about our impermanent nature\, experiences of loss\, an
d more in a mindful community. The Death Cafe is an international movement
that aims to bring these important conversations to the forefront. We bel
ieve that the practice of mindful sharing can be comforting and supportive
during our journey.
\n
This is a group-directed session offering par
ticipants time to reflect on and share what they think is important. We wi
ll be listening when people are talking\, give respect for others’ views a
nd hold confidentiality.
\n
Feel free to bring your favorite tea\, de
ssert and snacks – after all\, what’s a Cafe without baked goods and hot b
everages?
In 2010 Jon Underwood dec
ided to develop a series of projects about death one of which was to focus
on talking about death. In November Jon read about the work of Bernard Crettaz in the Independent newspaper. Inspired by Berna
rd’s work\, Jon immediately decided to use a similar model for his own pro
ject\, and Death Cafe was born. Jon died suddenly on 27 June 2017.
\n
The first Death Cafe in the UK was offered in Jon’s house in Hackney\, Ea
st London in September 2011. It was facilitated by psychotherapist Sue Bar
sky Reid\, Jon’s mum. It was a wonderful occasion. We went on to offer Dea
th Cafes in various places including funky cafes\, people’s houses\, cemet
eries\, a yurt\, and the Royal Festival Hall.
\n
Jon and Sue Barsky R
eid produced a guide to running your own Death Cafe\, based on the methodo
logy Sue developed. This was published in Feb. 2012 and the first person t
o pick it up outside of the UK was Lizzy Miles in Columbus\, Ohio. Subsequ
ently\, hundreds of people have provided Death Cafes in over 85 countries
since 2011.

A little History\n
\n
\n
In 2010 Jon Underwood decided to develop a series of projects
about death one of which was to focus on talking about death. In November
Jon read about the work of Bernard Crettaz in the Indepe
ndent newspaper. Inspired by Bernard's work\, Jon immediately decided
to use a similar model for his own project\, and Death Cafe was born. Jon
died suddenly on 27 June 2017.
\nThe first Death Cafe in the UK was off
ered in Jon's house in Hackney\, East London in September 2011. It was fac
ilitated by psychotherapist Sue Barsky Reid\, Jon's mum. It was a wonderfu
l occasion. We went on to offer Death Cafes in various places including fu
nky cafes\, people's houses\, cemeteries\, a yurt\, and the Royal Festival
Hall.\n\nJon and Sue Barsky Reid produced a guide to running your own Dea
th Cafe\, based on the methodology Sue developed. This was published in Fe
b. 2012 and the first person to pick it up outside of the UK was Lizzy Mil
es in Columbus\, Ohio. Subsequently\, hundreds of people have provided Dea
th Cafes in over 85 countries since 2011.\n\n
Embodied Arts: a mindful movement and
meditation drawing practice.
\n
During this workshop\, we will be guided in seate
d meditation\, gentle movement\, and a 35+ minute practice of using full-b
ody bilateral movements to make large-scale drawings of emotional release
using crayons and roll paper. This practice is guided through music and vo
cal cues. At the end of the practice\, participants will take an “art walk
” to observe the art of fellow practitioners in creative connection. There
will be time for reflection and community within the 2-hour container.
\n
Embodied Arts is led b
y artist\, educator\, and certified Mindfulness instructor Adam George. Th
e meditation portion of the workshop is led by Dallas Meditation Center di
rector Ji Yoon Lee.
\n
Bring: an open mind\, water\, and clothes you don’t mind rolling around on
the ground in (we will be doing full-body drawings with crayons!)
\n
We hope you can join us on this journey o
f creative connection!
