Deep Relaxation and Touching the Earth: A Mindfulness Meditation Experience
This meditation practice is a beautiful and gentle opportunity to come to peace in the present moment, releasing worry, anger, and fear in the body while opening it to compassion. Afterward, be swept into bliss with deep relaxation accompanied by live music. Facilitated by Dallas Meditation Center directors, Bobbie Perkins and Cornell Kinderknecht.
These practices are derived from the Buddha’s teachings and the Plum Village practices that honor those teachings.
Deep relaxation – Lying down or seated, you will be guided in a meditation that invites your body and mind to relax, offers gratitude to your body, and restores the balance of body, mind, and spirit.
Touching the Earth – This event is centered around a yogic practice of touching the earth six times. It is a powerful tool for returning to our inner wisdom and re-establishing our connection with Mother Earth. Connect with our blood ancestors, our land ancestors, and our spiritual ancestors. After a brief reading related to each group of ancestors, you will be invited to touch the Earth and deeply experience your connection to those ancestors, seeing the positive qualities in your own life, and releasing what is not beneficial into the earth to be transformed.
Mats, blankets, and cushions (for pillows) will be provided. You may bring your own blanket if you like.
Together we’ll enjoy an opportunity to rest, release, and renew. We look forward to seeing you!
“Wherever we are, we can be in touch with the earth…..we can bow down to receive its energy of stability and fearlessness….we release all of our fear, anxiety, and anger…and strengthen our capacity to look, speak and act with understanding and compassion towards ourselves and others.” — Thich Nhat Hanh, Touching the Earth
