A meditation & teaching group for Young Adults (20’s & 30’s) facilitated by Young Adult co-facilitators. Each gathering includes beginner-friendly walking and sitting meditation, a song or two, Dharma teachings, sharing & discussion.

We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness and contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society. Part of the Awakening Heart Community at Dallas Meditation Center, our meditation practice is inspired by the tradition of Plum Village and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. Our practice is based on the Five Mindfulness Trainings, which are ethical guidelines that offer concrete practices of true love and compassion, and a path towards a life in harmony with each other and the Earth. These guidelines are the foundation of our lives and represent our ideal of service.

Open to all levels of meditation experience, from beginners to more experienced meditators. We welcome persons of any spiritual tradition, including those not part of any spiritual or faith tradition.

**Family Nights: Parents know their child best, so it is up to them to decide if they want the child to practice in the grand hall with us or in the lotus room where we will offer children’s activities and stream the meditation and dharma talk.

Interbeing Sangha and Earth Holder Sangha
May 1 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Group meditation: Wednesday 7-8:30 PM – Interbeing Sangha and Earth Holder Sangha ONLINE

Every Wednesday
7:00-8:30pm CT

Currently meeting ONLINE through Zoom.

Part of the Awakening Heart Community at Dallas Meditation Center, Interbeing Sangha and Earth Holder Sangha meditation practice are inspired by the tradition of Plum Village and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.

Interbeing Sangha

Interbeing Sangha is a meditation group practicing and studying the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and others who practice in the tradition of Plum Village. The weekly practice includes a brief check-in, seated meditation, dharma talk or study, and sharing.

The Five Mindfulness Trainings

On the first Wednesday of each month, we recite the Five Mindfulness Trainings during the gathering and discuss them.

The Five Mindfulness Trainings provide a framework for ethical behavior that can help us live in harmony with ourselves and with others, and make positive contributions to society.

You do not need to be a long-term or consistent practitioner. You do not need to currently attend a Sangha in the Tiep Hien/ Interbeing tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. You simply have, in your heart, an aspiration to do your best in your daily life to increase happiness and decrease suffering in the world.

Those who have had an opportunity to receive the Five Mindfulness Trainings can keep up their dedication ongoing through this monthly Recitation.

Earth Holder Sangha

Starting in January (Monthly, 4th Wednesday), Earthholders will begin reading our way through Zen and The Art of Saving the Planet by Thich Nhat Hanh.  Similar to Interbeing Sangha, we will discuss chapter by chapter.  Please come prepared having read the Preface and Introduction.
The book is widely available in libraries, stores, and online, and also available in audiobook/downloads.  Be sure to get your copy and join us in the New Year!

The Earth Holder Sangha is the branch of the Plum Village tree that applies Thich Nhat Hanh’s core teachings on engaged Buddhism, mindful living, racial and social justice, and inter-being with Mother Earth at this time of ecological crisis.  The Earth Holder Sangha at Dallas Meditation Center is a part of the Interbeing Sangha and follows the same format but with readings, presentations, and discussions geared toward environmental stewardship, issues of climate change, social justice, and racism. They meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Open to all levels of meditation experience, from beginners to more experienced meditators. We welcome persons of any spiritual tradition, including those not part of any spiritual or faith tradition.

Mindful Grief Support Group | Compassionate Care @ Dallas Meditation Center
May 2 @ 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Mindful Grief Support Group – May 2, 2024 – 5-8:30pm

  • Duration:  May 2 – Last one for the season.  We will meet again on September 5th.

Meanwhile, if you want to do Cheryl’s suggested exercises on exploring our relationship to loss and grieving, we have a Whatsapp group where Jiyoon will post the exercises every Thursday. If you are interested in joining the Whatsapp group, email your name and phone number to info@dallasmeditationcenter.com, and we will plug you into the conversation.

  • Time: 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
  • RSVP: (see form below)
  • Location: Dallas Meditation Center

This in-person support group is dedicated to providing compassionate care for Dallas Meditation Center attendees who are navigating the normal yet challenging experiences of grief. Facilitated by Cheryl Muck-King, a retired nurse with extensive experience in Home Health and Hospice, our group exists to offer mindful presence and understanding without providing grief therapy or counseling.

Event Schedule:

  • 5:00 – 6:00 pm: Gathering (Optional)
    • Opportunity to come early, have a bite to eat, meet people, and share.
  • 6:00 – 7:00 pm: Mindful Grief Support Group
    • Formal meeting time with meditation and guided self-compassion practices.
  • 7:00 – 8:30 pm: Community Sharing and Caring (Optional)
    • Participants are invited to share or listen mindfully. Supportive group discussion about lessons learned and practices used.

Event Intentions: In this safe and supportive space, we aim to:

  • Stand witness to the suffering caused by life’s losses and death.
  • Embrace our pain with mindful presence and self-compassion.
  • Recognize our common humanity and extend compassion to all experiencing sorrow.
  • Observe our suffering with balanced awareness, acknowledging its reality without being overwhelmed.
  • Mindfully support each other without offering judgment, solutions, or comparison.

Support Group Behavioral Intentions: During our gatherings, we commit to:

  • Creating a safe place for everyone to share and heal.
  • Practicing loving-kindness in all actions and speech.
  • Offering ourselves and others compassion as we navigate grief together.
  • Acknowledging that loss and death are inherent aspects of human life.
  • Allowing each individual the space to share if they desire, with the utmost respect for confidentiality.
  • Communicating with compassion, avoiding judgment, and refraining from comparing grief experiences.
  • Honoring each loss as unique and irreplaceable, recognizing that responses to grief vary and are deeply personal.

Please note that while this support group provides a nurturing environment for working through grief, it does not serve as a replacement for professional counseling. We encourage attendees to seek the support of skilled professionals when needed and will gladly provide a list of professional resources.

Together, let us be present with our grief, supporting and caring for one another as we embrace the impermanence of life with mindfulness and loving-kindness.

Contribution for the center to be able to provide the programming: $20- 40

Interbeing Sangha

Interbeing Sangha is a meditation group practicing and studying the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and others who practice in the tradition of Plum Village. The weekly practice includes a brief check-in, seated meditation, dharma talk or study, and sharing.

The Five Mindfulness Trainings

On the first Wednesday of each month, we recite the Five Mindfulness Trainings during the gathering and discuss them.

Description

About XinYi

XinYi, originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, moved to Dallas, Texas at the age of 7, facing significant challenges in school due to language barriers and cultural differences. Struggling to find a sense of belonging both in the United States and Malaysia, XinYi felt caught between worlds, unable to fully identify with either culture. Despite these challenges, XinYi embraced a diverse range of creative pursuits, becoming a “creative chimera” who finds joy in exploring and mixing various media, rather than settling on a single form of expression. Identifying as aromantic, XinYi felt disconnected from the prevalent themes of romantic love in pop culture, further compounding feelings of alienation. However, through forming deep, platonic connections, XinYi gradually began to feel less isolated, discovering a sense of home and belonging on Earth through the power of friendship and shared understanding. This is why she created Don’t Be Strangers.

Looking for a meaningful gift with your personal touch to gift your mother? Or are you looking for fun and easy activities for you and your kids this Mother’s Day weekend?

Please join our “Make or Buy your Mother’s Day Gift: Gallery Open House + Bake Sale” at the Dallas Meditation Center. There are four parts to this fun event!

  1. Crafting Table: There will be materials you can use to make beautiful paper flowers at the Dallas Meditation Center. Mimikia, an amazing Korean craft tutorial YouTuber offers an easy-to-understand tutorial. You could make a beautiful vase and/or Lotus flower for your mother! Interested? Please check out her channel.
  2. Art Sale: Dallas Meditation Center will be displaying beautiful art made by our Mindful Community Members for sale! See if you can find the perfect gift for your mother (figure), all the while supporting the local artists!
  3. Bake Sale: There will be delicious baked goods available for you to purchase. You can eat it on the spot or take it home! I would have a hard time resisting goodies like our Sourdough Chocolate cupcakes!
  4. Fundraiser: If you enjoyed the event, and would like to support your local non-profit organization Dallas Meditation Center to host more events like this, please offer us a donation. Dallas Meditation Center is still recovering from the COVID shutdown deficits, and anything helps. There will be QR codes that will bring you to the Donation Page AND an easy-to-use credit card reader. We appreciate your generosity!
