*6:30 – 7:00 PM Practice Songs or Chanting session (Please email Jiyoon to volunteer as a music facilitator!) Practice Songs help us remember our Mindful practices. You can listen to some of the songs Here!
A meditation & teaching group for Young Adults (20’s & 30’s) facilitated by Young Adult co-facilitators. Each gathering includes beginner-friendly walking and sitting meditation, a song or two, Dharma teachings, sharing & discussion.
We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness and contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society. Practicing mindfulness, concentration and insight enables us to cultivate tolerance, non-discrimination, understanding and compassion in ourselves and the world.
Part of the Awakening Heart Community at Dallas Meditation Center, our meditation practice is inspired by the tradition of Plum Village and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. Our practice is based on the Five Mindfulness Trainings, which are ethical guidelines that offer concrete practices of true love and compassion, and a path towards a life in harmony with each other and the Earth. These guidelines are the foundation of our lives and represent our ideal of service.
Open to all levels of meditation experience, from beginners to more experienced meditators. We welcome persons of any spiritual tradition, including those not part of any spiritual or faith tradition.
**Family Nights: Parents know their child best, so it is up to them to decide if they want the child to practice in the grand hall with us or in the lotus room where we will offer children’s activities and stream the meditation and dharma talk.

- Location: Dallas Meditation Center
This in-person support group is dedicated to providing compassionate care for Dallas Meditation Center attendees who are navigating the normal yet challenging experiences of grief. Facilitated by Cheryl Muck-King, a retired nurse with extensive experience in Home Health and Hospice, our group exists to offer mindful presence and understanding without providing grief therapy or counseling.
Event Schedule:
- 5:00 – 6:00 pm: Gathering (Optional)
- Opportunity to come early, have a bite to eat, meet people, and share.
- 6:00 – 7:00 pm: Mindful Grief Support Group
- Formal meeting time with meditation and guided self-compassion practices.
- 7:00 – 8:30 pm: Community Sharing and Caring (Optional)
- Participants are invited to share or listen mindfully. Supportive group discussion about lessons learned and practices used.
Event Intentions: In this safe and supportive space, we aim to:
- Stand witness to the suffering caused by life’s losses and death.
- Embrace our pain with mindful presence and self-compassion.
- Recognize our common humanity and extend compassion to all experiencing sorrow.
- Observe our suffering with balanced awareness, acknowledging its reality without being overwhelmed.
- Mindfully support each other without offering judgment, solutions, or comparison.
Support Group Behavioral Intentions: During our gatherings, we commit to:
- Creating a safe place for everyone to share and heal.
- Practicing loving-kindness in all actions and speech.
- Offering ourselves and others compassion as we navigate grief together.
- Acknowledging that loss and death are inherent aspects of human life.
- Allowing each individual the space to share if they desire, with the utmost respect for confidentiality.
- Communicating with compassion, avoiding judgment, and refraining from comparing grief experiences.
- Honoring each loss as unique and irreplaceable, recognizing that responses to grief vary and are deeply personal.
Please note that while this support group provides a nurturing environment for working through grief, it does not serve as a replacement for professional counseling. We encourage attendees to seek the support of skilled professionals when needed and will gladly provide a list of professional resources.
Together, let us be present with our grief, supporting and caring for one another as we embrace the impermanence of life with mindfulness and loving-kindness.
Contribution for the center to be able to provide the programming: $20- 40

About XinYi
XinYi, originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, moved to Dallas, Texas at the age of 7, facing significant challenges in school due to language barriers and cultural differences. Struggling to find a sense of belonging both in the United States and Malaysia, XinYi felt caught between worlds, unable to fully identify with either culture. Despite these challenges, XinYi embraced a diverse range of creative pursuits, becoming a “creative chimera” who finds joy in exploring and mixing various media, rather than settling on a single form of expression. Identifying as aromantic, XinYi felt disconnected from the prevalent themes of romantic love in pop culture, further compounding feelings of alienation. However, through forming deep, platonic connections, XinYi gradually began to feel less isolated, discovering a sense of home and belonging on Earth through the power of friendship and shared understanding. This is why she created Don’t Be Strangers.
