Interbeing Sangha and Earth Holder Sangha @ Dallas Meditation Center
Dec 18 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Group meditation: Wednesday 7-8:30 PM – Interbeing Sangha and Earth Holder Sangha ONLINE

Every Wednesday
7:00-8:30 pm CT

Currently meeting ONLINE through Zoom.

Note: We will not meet on Thanksgiving Eve (11/27), Christmas Day (12/25) or New Year’s Day (1/1).

Part of the Awakening Heart Community at Dallas Meditation Center, Interbeing Sangha and Earth Holder Sangha meditation practices are inspired by the tradition of Plum Village and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.

Interbeing Sangha

Interbeing Sangha is a meditation group practicing and studying the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. The weekly practice consists of sitting meditation, walking meditation, singing/chanting, and a dharma talk or study.

The Five Mindfulness Trainings

On the first Wednesday of each month, we recite the Five Mindfulness Trainings during the gathering and discuss them.

The Five Mindfulness Trainings provide a framework for ethical behavior that can help us live in harmony with ourselves and with others, and make positive contributions to society.
Β
You do not need to be a long-term or consistent practitioner. You do not need to currently attend a Sangha in the Tiep Hien/ Interbeing tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. You simply have, in your heart, an aspiration to do your best in your daily life to increase happiness and decrease suffering in the world.
Β
Those who have had an opportunity to receive the Five Mindfulness Trainings can keep up their dedication ongoing through this monthly Recitation.

Earth Holder Sangha

(Monthly, 4th Wednesday),Β The Earth Holder Sangha is the branch of the Plum Village tree that applies Thich Nhat Hanh’s core teachings on engaged Buddhism, mindful living, racial and social justice, and inter-being with Mother Earth at this time of ecological crisis.Β  The Earth Holder Sangha at Dallas Meditation Center is a part of the Interbeing Sangha and follows the same format but with readings, presentations, and discussions geared toward environmental stewardship, issues of climate change, social justice, and racism. They meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Open to all levels of meditation experience, from beginners to more experienced meditators. We welcome persons of any spiritual tradition, including those not part of any spiritual or faith tradition.

A little History

In 2010 Jon Underwood decided to develop aΒ series of projects about deathΒ one of which was to focus on talking about death. In November Jon read about the work ofΒ Bernard CrettazΒ in theΒ Independent newspaper. Inspired by Bernard’s work, Jon immediately decided to use a similar model for his own project, and Death Cafe was born. Jon died suddenly on 27 June 2017.

The first Death Cafe in the UK was offered in Jon’s house in Hackney, East London in September 2011. It was facilitated by psychotherapist Sue Barsky Reid, Jon’s mum. It was a wonderful occasion. We went on to offer Death Cafes in various places including funky cafes, people’s houses, cemeteries, a yurt, and the Royal Festival Hall.

Jon and Sue Barsky Reid produced a guide to running your own Death Cafe, based on the methodology Sue developed. This was published in Feb. 2012 and the first person to pick it up outside of the UK was Lizzy Miles in Columbus, Ohio. Subsequently, hundreds of people have provided Death Cafes in over 85 countries since 2011.

Group meditation: Tuesday 7-9 PM – Wake Up Dallas YES, Young Adults Meditation HYBRID

Every Tuesday IN-PERSON and ONLINE
7:00-9:00 pm CT

*6:30 – 7:00 PM Practice Songs or Chanting session (Please email Jiyoon to volunteer as a music facilitator!) Practice Songs help us remember our Mindful practices. You can listen to some of the songs Here!

A meditation & teaching group for Young Adults (20’s & 30’s) facilitated by Young Adult co-facilitators. Each gathering includes beginner-friendly walking and sitting meditation, a song or two, Dharma teachings, sharing & discussion.

We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness and contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society. Practicing mindfulness, concentration and insight enables us to cultivate tolerance, non-discrimination, understanding and compassion in ourselves and the world.

Part of the Awakening Heart Community at Dallas Meditation Center, our meditation practice is inspired by the tradition of Plum Village and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. Our practice is based on the Five Mindfulness Trainings, which are ethical guidelines that offer concrete practices of true love and compassion, and a path towards a life in harmony with each other and the Earth. These guidelines are the foundation of our lives and represent our ideal of service.

Open to all levels of meditation experience, from beginners to more experienced meditators. We welcome persons of any spiritual tradition, including those not part of any spiritual or faith tradition.

Why Is Wake Up Only for Young People? Message from the Plum Village Monsastics.

πŸŒΏπŸ™ We accept donations and funding to sustain the community. We are able to sustain this practice because of the generosity of our teachers, who offer their teachings openly, and the generosity of members of our sangha, who offer financial support to continue the cycle of reciprocity and keep the wheel of the Dharma turning. By donating today, you ensure these life-changing teachings continue for everyone.
